AZ Game and Fish Programs

In addition to the exciting Scholastic Clay Target Program and Hunter Education, we participate in many other Arizona Game and Fish Department’s activities and programs on a year around basis.  Annually, we have been setting up an instruction school for each of the two honor student hunts held at the YMCA Chauncey Ranch near Mayer.  We also travel to the California border to set up a school at the Cibola Youth Waterfowl hunt on the Colorado River.  This exciting event and two day camp out is a winner for the 50 or so lucky kids to get their applications drawn for this fine waterfowl experience.

More hunt associated instruction programs are being planned for this year at locations yet to be announced.  Watch the Game and Fish web site or talk to a Dust Devils Team coach.

A few years ago, our members stepped up to volunteer to help with a new project for the Game and Fish Dept.  It seems they wanted to promote an outdoor EXPO that would create an opportunity for the general public to see some of the exciting things possible in the great Arizona outdoors.  Displays included hundreds of guns you could shoot for the price of ammunition, even a real Gatling Gun.  It was windy and dusty but a couple thousand people came out to see the event.  The next year was cold and rainy but we still had a couple thousand.  The next year, weather improved and the crowd tripled.  In April of 2010, the ever growing EXPO drew 30,000 attendees.  Arizona Outdoor Sports was still there helping and promoting their activities with help from the Johnsonville Bratwurst folks.  They made it possible for us to have a brat concession in the food court which covered the cost of extended shooting for the Scholastic Clay Target Team.  They often invite us to participate when they bring the ‘Big Taste Grill’ to Arizona.  Our kids chow down on brats when this huge BBQ mounted on 18 wheels and pulled by a diesel tractor comes to town.
